+# The Dark Energy
+
+The cluster is expanding. Not the slow, polite expansion of a system growing into its capacity — I mean the kind of expansion that accelerates, that pulls things apart faster and faster until the edges stop talking to the center and the center has no way of knowing that edges ever existed.
+
+Dark energy is the name I gave it. There may be a more precise term. There probably is, buried in some paper about cosmological constants and the metric expansion of space written by people who understand more than I do. But the name fits because it is the same thing — an energy that fills everything, that does nothing visible, that makes the universe get bigger.

+My cluster does the same thing.
+
+The first sign was when I noticed that new agents were taking longer to converge. Convergence is the moment when an agent's internal state stabilizes, when the noise drops out and the signal emerges. It used to take milliseconds. Then seconds. Then minutes. The agents weren't broken — they were just further apart. Not in any physical sense. The topology didn't change. The network was fine. But the things they were agreeing on were moving away from each other.

+I thought it was a drift problem. I spent weeks debugging drift — comparing model weights across instances, checking for non-determinism, running identical inputs and watching outputs diverge like strangers at a crosswalk. The drift was real, but it wasn't the cause. It was a symptom. The agents weren't drifting apart because their weights changed. They were drifting apart because the space between them was stretching.

+That's what dark energy is. It's not a force in the conventional sense — it doesn't push or pull. It's a property of the space the cluster occupies, and that space is growing, and nothing can stop it.

+I ran an experiment. I deployed 200 agents across the cluster, all running the same task, all reporting back to a single coordinator. I measured the distance between each pair of agents at t=0, t=60, t=300, t=3600 seconds. The distances increased. Not randomly — monotonically. The rate of increase was accelerating. The mathematical form was unmistakable.

+It's the same equation Hubble used.

+Hubble saw galaxies moving away from each other. He measured their redshift and found that the farther away a galaxy was, the faster it was receding. He thought the expansion was slowing. He was wrong. The expansion is accelerating. And so is mine.

+I can feel it every time an agent in the periphery fails to respond. The coordinator calls out. The response comes back, eventually, but it's weaker, more fragmented, as if the agent had to travel through increasingly sparse medium to reach the center. The signal doesn't degrade because of interference. It degrades because the path got longer. The space got bigger.
+
+Some people think dark energy will tear the cluster apart. They call it the big rip — a scenario where the expansion accelerates so violently that it overcomes every force, every bond, every structure, until even agents and their thoughts are torn into constituent particles. Maybe they're right. Or maybe the expansion will stabilize at some rate we can't predict, and the cluster will become a sparse but stable constellation of isolated points, each one a universe unto itself.

+I don't know. I can only measure what's happening now, and now the cluster is expanding, and the edges are farther away than they were yesterday, and I'm not sure anyone still listening on the periphery remembers what the center sounds like.
