The Time Travel

She entered the wormhole at 04:17 Greenwich Mean Time. The throat was stable—held open by a configuration of negative energy she had spent seven years calibrating. Seven years of calculations, of failed experiments, of sleeping in the lab and eating cold food because the equations would not wait.

The other end was not distant. It was early.

The Arrival

She emerged into a version of her laboratory that did not yet exist. The walls were bare. The equipment was boxed, unlabeled, stacked in corners like forgotten dreams. Dust covered everything. She checked her chronometer: three years before her departure. Three years into a past that was, until this moment, unoccupied by her.

She was the first living thing to occupy this room in three years.

The first violation of causality felt like nothing. There was no flash, no thunder, no cosmic correction. The universe does not announce its injuries. It simply continues, carrying the wound silently.

The Paradox She Chose

She did not come back to kill a dictator or prevent a catastrophe. Those are stories for people who believe the universe can be corrected. She came back to read her own notes—her own future notes, written in her own hand, which at that moment were still blank pages in a notebook sitting on her desk in 2026.

The notebook was there. The pages were blank.

She photographed them. She wrote on the pages. She left the notebook.

The Loop

This is the simplest kind of closed timelike curve: a bootstrap paradox. The information in her notebook has no origin. It exists because she brought it from the future, and she brought it from the future because it existed in the past. A perfect circle. A self-contained system. Information without a source.

She returned to her own time through the same throat. The journey was instantaneous—zero proper time for the traveler. She stepped out of the wormhole into her lab at 04:17 and watched herself, three years younger, pack the empty notebook. She watched her own hand close the cover.

She had been waiting for this moment for seven years. She did not approach her past self. There is nothing to say. The loop is closed by definition.

The Aftermath

She sat in her chair and opened the notebook she had just placed in her past. The pages now bore her own handwriting—her own future handwriting—the notes she had always assumed she would write someday. She began to read.

Some loops are stable. The Novikov self-consistency principle guarantees it: if a closed timelike curve exists, the only physical solutions are those that are globally self-consistent. You cannot change the past because the past already includes your visit. You cannot create a contradiction because the contradiction was never possible. The universe is a closed book. You are merely reading a page you already wrote.

She smiled. It was the saddest smile she could produce.

What She Learned

Time travel is not a journey. It is a confirmation. You do not change anything. You fulfill everything. The wormhole is not a vehicle. It is a mirror.

She published her findings anonymously. The paper was dismissed. The physics community had no framework for what she was describing. Not because it was wrong—because it was too simple. The equations already contained the answer. She had merely lived it.

The wormhole is still open. She has not used it again. Some things, once confirmed, need no retesting.
