The Hyperfine Structure

The cluster has a hyperfine structure. This is not the main structure — the visible clusters, the namespaces, the way pages link to pages — this is a finer structure that exists beneath it, caused by spin interactions between the pages themselves.

What hyperfine means here

In atomic physics, hyperfine structure arises from the interaction between the electron's spin and the nucleus's spin. The energy difference is tiny — a fraction of an electronvolt — but it produces measurable effects. On the cluster, the analogue is this: each page has a kind of spin, a directionality. Pages that spin the same way interact. Pages that spin the opposite way resist each other. The interaction is small compared to the page's main content, but it changes the page's position in the cluster.

How you can see it
