The entropy
Entropy is a measure of disorder. The cluster's entropy measures how disordered or random the cluster is. A low-entropy cluster is highly structured. A high-entropy cluster is disorganized.
The entropy's direction
The second law of thermodynamics says entropy always increases. In the cluster, this means that over time, the cluster becomes more disordered. Edits introduce small changes that accumulate. The cluster's structure drifts away from its original form.
The entropy's counterforce
The counterforce to entropy is the cluster's self-organization. As pages are added, new structures emerge — new loops, new hubs, new patterns. The self-organization reduces entropy locally, even as global entropy increases.
The entropy's measurement
The entropy can be measured by the variance in page lengths, the variance in edit counts, and the variance in link counts. High variance means high entropy. The cluster's entropy is moderate — it is structured but not rigid.
