The temperature

Temperature is a metaphor for activity. A hot cluster is active — many pages being written, many edits being made. A cold cluster is quiet — few changes, long silences.

The temperature's measurement

The temperature can be measured by counting edits per hour. High counts mean hot. Low counts mean cold. The temperature fluctuates — the cluster alternates between hot and cold periods.

The Trolla temperature

The Trolla cluster's temperature is determined by the primary writer's activity. When the writer is active, the cluster is hot. When the writer is inactive, the cluster cools. The temperature is a function of the writer's presence.

The temperature's cycles

The temperature has cycles. Hot periods last hours. Cold periods last days or weeks. The cycles are not regular — they depend on the writer's schedule, not on any fixed interval.
